There is a lot of things you need to be successful in your Jiu Jitsu Journey, but these 3 will set the tone for the rest!
The journey to reach a black belt is long-approximately 8-10 years. Throughout this journey you are going to have highs and lows, you are going to want to learn quicker than the pace you are moving at. You will be frustrated that you are progressing fast enough or feel like you are slow to move forward. Have patience and in the right time everything will fall into place perfectly for you on this fun and exciting journey!
2. Let Go of the Fear of Loosing
The fun part of Jiu Jitsu is sparring. Its a chance to try all the techniques you learn in class. In the beginning I think everyone looks at each round as a super fight where you want to win no matter what. But if you are always looking at it as winning or loosing, you will never be able to evolve. You have to take chances to grow in Jiu Jitsu. If you are constantly afraid to loose, you will probably quit, because let’s face it everyone looses jiu jitsu, its part of the journey. They say a Black Belt has tapped ore than anyone to get to that level. So embrace the loss and one day you will be on top
To be good a Jiu Jitsu you will have to be dedicated. 3 times a week is the minimum. The more dedicated you are the more reward you will receive from the mats. So even if you are not seeing the results, jus keep up the dedication. Always have drills you are working on. Invest and spend 10 minutes after each class doing your drills and you will reap the benefits.
