Jiu Jitsu is fun and exciting but it also can be very frustrating especially in the beginning. It’s hard to remember things. Difficult to understand the BIG picture of Jiu Jitsu and really hard to teach your body to learn how to move in new and different ways. A lot of people get so excited when they catch the Jiu Jitsu bug that they start to ask a lot of “What if” Questions. I’d like to share this analogy with a lot of my new students. Jiu Jitsu is like building a toolbox. Every time you come to class you are going to learn about a different tool. One day we might teach you about the hammer, then the wrench and screwdrivers. Think about how many different tools there are that you can fill a toolbox with. Just a simple socket set alone can easily have 12 different sizes. In addition to learning about what a Hammer is we also have to teach you when you will use a Hammer. You wouldn't use your hammer to screw in a nail. In addition to building your “Jiu Jitsu” Toolbox, but we are also teaching you when to use the proper tool. On average it take 4-6 months to rotate one time through the Fundamental Curriculum of Jiu Jitsu. It’s crucial to have a good foundation before you move on to more complex concepts or techniques. Often times if you do not understand fundamental concepts you will not be able to grasp the more advanced ones. If you are new to Jiu Jitsu, be patient and find comfort in knowing that we are adding to your Toolbox. It’s okay if you do not know everything after the first week or the first month. The beauty of Jiu Jitsu is that you are always learning. Even as a Black Belt and the longer you do Jiu Jitsu the more fun it becomes!!! I promise!! It’s journey not a destination, so ENJOY!!!
